Wolves returning to New York State?
This is exciting news. It seems that at least one gray wolf made its way into the Adirondacks, upstate. A local guy named Russ Lawrence was hunting coyote when he shot what seemed like a larger than usual coyote. Turns out that it was 100% Canis lupus!
The irony is that conservationists had given up plans to reintroduce wolves into New York several years ago. This particular wolf, now unfortunately dead, was the first confirmed wolf found in the state since 1899.
